A big thank you to our friends at The EntreprenHer Tour for helping to promote female entrepreneurship around the globe. Our co-founder, Miranda Phua, had the opportunity to share ZigWay's story during their recent trip to Myanmar.
Yangon, Myanmar 10th of November:
We met Miranda Phua, from Australia, who just settled down in Myanmar to start her social enterprise in microfinance called Zi...gWay. She met her co-founder, Laurent Savaete, during a global entrepreneurship bootcamp at M.I.T in 2014. Zigway targets people with low income and helps them get through debt traps.
How ? By allowing them to escape the exorbitant interest rates of moneylenders and allowing people to access cheap loans through a mobile application
With ZigWay, borrowers can choose the best microfinance option to meet their needs. And ZigWay's technology makes it cost effective for microfinance institutions to provide Nano Loans (loans less than $100)."
Why Myanmar ? After some time going through Asia to find the right spot to start their business, Miranda and Laurent got the feeling that Myanmar was the place to be. Its economic growth, the opportunities and its people that are looking to embrace new ideas and technologies to push the country moving forward are the reasons that convinced them. It is a new era for Myanmar now that the country is opening itself.
When we asked her how it feels to be a social entrepreneur she answered "it's a crazy journey but it is worth it, it combines the traditional entrepreneurship with making sure you have an impact on people who really need it".
Good news never come alone: we're hiring for 2 positions, an android developer and a sales & operations supervisor https://www.jobnet.com.mm/en/zigway-jobs-myanmar/3908
