And another very good review for Bai Kamara Jr's New album (recorded here at Zinne Studios). Link in NL, Google translation below:
A "labor of love", so called musician, songwriter and producer Bai Kamara Jr. The new album. Love is indeed central to 'Presents The Mystical Survivors & Some Rare Earthlings Vol. 1 '.
For three years, Bai Kamara Jr. To new work; A bet of which the fruits are now to be picked. Conduct was to make a modern and organic sounding soul album without w...histles or bubbles. And there is the Brusselsman, whose roots are in Sierra Leona, with this' Presents The Mystical Survivors & Rare Earthlings Vol. 1 'also succeeded.
To record his fifth album in the Zinne Studios in Elsene, Kamara Jr. Appeals to some top musicians, including saxophonist Stéphane Mercier and trumpeter Jean Paul Estiévenart.
The choice for Brussels with its good (diversity) and less good (crowded, pollution) properties is a clear statement for Kamara Jr. And a studio within walking distance of his home was also not to be overlooked. Thus, without any time pressure or other expectations, he could work with a sound engineer Steve Bullock on a very own end product that competes with artists such as Leon Bridges, Charles Bradley.
The music is unmistakably linked to the soul and rhythm and blues of the sixties and seventies with heroes like Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, though you also notice that the sound is not necessarily retro. Sometimes it is present, sometimes not again. The focus was on the performance, performance of the songs this time.
Textually, there is a great deal of social commitment (Going Up The Wrong Way), even though it is packed in catchy and well-liked songs like Citizens Of The World Unite. Take the fresh, soulful opener The One Thing Must Be Love whose message is that, if you have to believe in one thing, it should be love. In a moment, your gray days will be colored. A little further there is the sexy Marvin Gaye related Do not Say No Tonight including blazers and backing vocals.
Kamara Jr. Works on his fifteen songs album different contrasts. On the one hand there is the deeply-lived Good Day in which he exposes the struggle of an addict; On the other hand, the musician understands that he is not afraid of a party (I Just Want To Party).
One of the anchor points on the album is the self-evident I Work Hard. The long hard work is rewarded with a magnificence of an album in which Bai Kamara Jr., who previously collaborated with Dani Klein, presents herself as a modern soul hero who works in his own way for a better world, bringing a message of hope And peace.
Bai Kamara is featured on May 26th during the Brussels Jazz weekend, June 24th on Fête de la Musique and the day for Genk On Stage (full band). In addition, he can also be seen at the Liège Festival d'Eté.
