I want to respond to Marc Andreessen's comments about India yesterday. I found the comments deeply upsetting, and they do not represent the way Facebook or I think at all.
India has been personally important to me and Facebook. Early on in my thinking about our mission, I traveled to India and was inspired by the humanity, spirit and values of the people. It solidified my understanding that when all people have the power to share their experiences, the entire world will make progress.
Facebook stands for helping to connect people and giving them voice to shape their own future. But to shape the future we need to understand the past. As our community in India has grown, I've gained a deeper appreciation for the need to understand India's history and culture. I've been inspired by how much progress India has made in building a strong nation and the largest democracy in the world, and I look forward to strengthening my connection to the country.

Sometimes Mark you have to accept peoples views and opinions. Its not time to bring the whole world the power of the internet yet. Some people might not ever want to be connected. Lets except that as a fact and move on. I know government agencies have to power to track and record everything we share or talk about. Focus on Oculus, AI, and how to become more efficient at sorting through the massive data sets we are now able to accumulate. As a student who is in school for Software Engineering I really enjoy the logical and critical thinking aspect of putting together a small program. One day I hope to actually get paid for it, but in the mean time Im absorbing all the computer science information I can.

Dear Mark, this a very good action. We need more things like this. But i'm very disappointed with some of facebook community patterns. There is a page here, from a brazilian citizen that incites violence against dogs. He posts pictures of bruized dogs and has a violent speech. And actually incites to beat the dogs. Many of us here in Brazil are trying to shut it down, but the facebook team analyze my report and the rest of us and said that it doesn't violate the community patterns. Please Mark, I beg to you, to facebook reevaluate the community patterns so things like this doesn't happen again. Violence against anything is not a good ideia and shouldn't be spread like this. The world needs more good things like whhat are you doing right now. freedom is good, as long as you don't incite violence, like this ignorant guy is doing. please help us. And I'm sorry if I took a random post to make this request for help. We are desperate to shut this page down!

India is not only the largest democracy in the world but also the oldest!
"India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe's languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha and other great Saints, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all". Will Durant

Raping women, killing them in womb and oppression in the name of religion, rituals and respect. No personal space or freedom in the name of family. No creative freedom and endless working hours in the name of productivity. Thousands of framers committing suicide. Buying votes in name of democracy. Altering the education system to condition kids, to suit their political needs. To hell with great culture and development. And then white people come here to sell us ideas like free basics, to use us as mere data for surveillance. This just the tip of the iceberg. Live here and then talk about the so called 'culture'

You are right to vent out your anguish Mark and there are no qualms to your commitment and respect for India and this was even evident during your visit to India at IIT Delhi, where you wholeheartedly asserted that without connecting to India, connecting the world together is improbable.

Inspiring truth n People of India stands by theirs Constitution. We are able to touch pinnacle of Communication technology by dint of gradual steps. Opening all windows all of sudden may harm our puristic culture. So we rely on one after one progressive change. Our mission is to connect with everyone with vigorous preparation so we prudently move towards world of connectivity.

The very introduction of FB in India has changed the lives of many Indians who never ever had any platform to voice their views, share their experience ,the courage to speak boldly and to feel closer to the world at large. My life has changed for the better and I find many answers to my unanswered questions. Besides a large no of areas where I share ,search and find answers. Fb for me is like a magic wand and I use this wand frequently.
My suggestion is keep going, do not get
upset due to unhealthy criticism ,you are on the right path and I personally appreciate the dedication and hard work in
